J-Just a Breath Away

Here I am--on the outside--looking in.
See me. Going through the motions today.
I'm not home, there's a stranger in my skin.
Hear my lips, expel things I'd never say--
sea-bitter statements, acidic abuse.

Yawn.  I am on the outside--just a breath--
a single, sylph-like, slip of a creature.
Hunting sharp, angular planes in distress.
Searching, for one small familiar feature--
always just a breath away--from being me.

    1. I did! It's the first poem I've written in a LONG time. I sat down and started about six different poems on this idea. Then I set out with the lofty goal of making a sonnet and ended up three-quarters of the way through with something I was unhappy with. So I scrapped half of it, scrapped the idea of a whole sonnet and modified it just the way I wanted until I got this! I'm happy with it, but will probably end up tweaking--I always do.
